Clifton W. J. Roth, MA, PSAP
I was born and raised in beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee! I literally “cut my teeth on the back of a church pew” and my parents instilled a deep and rich faith tradition in my 5 siblings and me. After 3 years of Bible College, I was challenged to broaden my horizon and pursue a degree in Organizational Management from Bryan College. In 2004 I married my high school sweetheart, Sally Jane and we set off on what has been an incredible adventure together! After two years in the D.C. area, we moved to Louisville, KY so I could work on my Master’s degree at Southern Seminary. Louisville quickly felt like home! We planted roots. We bought a house, received the blessing of 3 daughters and took a job with CarMax that turned into an amazing 8-year career in sales. Since 2014 I have had the joy and privilege of serving as a staff pastor at Sojourn Church Midtown.
Over the last 5 years, I have had an increasing passion for joining individuals and couples that are searching for hope, freedom, and healing from the pain of sexual sin, addiction, intimacy disorders, betrayal, and shame. The shame and guilt around sexual brokenness, especially in the church and for church leaders, seems suffocating at times. But I am here to say there is hope because I have experienced it! One of the most valuable gifts I have received in my recovery is the gift of guidance in a trusted relationship. I am grateful for the opportunity to get to serve others in the same way.
Along with my MA from SBTS, I have also completed CrossPoint Ministry’s two-year Soul Care Institute training and am certified as a Pastoral Sex Addiction Professional (PSAP) from the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals.
I have been a participant with Crosspoint Ministry since 2010 and currently lead a small group at our Deeper Journey Retreats and teach on sexuality at the Soul Care Institute.
October 14-15, 2019 I will be leading a training intensive focused on equipping church leaders to better understand and help those under their care regarding sexual sin, sex addiction, infidelity, and betrayal trauma.
